How are Monster Phonics lessons structured?

Every lesson is carefully planned to save teachers time and keep children engaged.

Daily Monster Phonics lessons last around 20–30 minutes and follow a consistent structure designed to keep cognitive load low and ensure every child is secure in their learning.

Each lesson includes:

• Review: Recap previously taught skills
• Teach: Introduce new phonemes, graphemes, or spelling rules
• Hook: A unique song or story featuring the monsters to make the concept memorable 
  Practise & Apply: Use fun, multisensory activities to embed learning
• Plenary (Year 1 & 2): Revisit the learning objective, celebrate success, and check understanding to inform next steps.
• High-Frequency Words (HFWs) and Common Exception Words (CEWs): Taught and practised daily through the Monster Phonics colour-coded approach
