Our books are designed to be genuinely decodable, engaging, and closely matched to the Monster Phonics progression—so children can practise exactly the code they’ve been taught and build confidence with every page.
Decodable texts: why they matter
Decodable books allow children to apply the graphemes and words they’ve already learned. This reduces guessing, supports accurate blending, and builds fluency. Monster Phonics readers follow a clear progression and use our selective colour-coding in the early stages to highlight tricky spellings before gradually phasing that scaffold out.
Can I buy a single single title?
Yes, you can purchase individual books. Prices typically range from £6.50–£8.50 per title.
Can I use Monster Phonics alongside another scheme?
Yes. Many schools use Monster Phonics as an enhanced approach for EAL and SEND learners because of the visual cues and multisensory support. For the strongest whole-school consistency, it works best when used across the school, but it can also sit alongside another core scheme.
Are Monster Phonics books organised in book bands?
Yes — our books map to common book-band systems used internationally. If you’d like the detailed mapping, please get in touch and we’ll share the current guide. The Monster Phonics progression itself is carefully sequenced from first sounds to fluent reading, in line with the Science of Reading.
When is the colour dropped in Monster Phonics books?
Colour is introduced to spotlight harder spellings and support memory. After a short period, this scaffold is phased out, so children move confidently to standard print.
Are Monster Phonics assessments in colour?
No — all assessments are in black-and-white text to reflect real-world reading and ensure children are secure without colour support.
